Nestlé sceglie awm per una pianificazione efficace
“Bringing digital into the factory is essential. We need to collect and analyze data, because only in this way can we improve our processes,” says Marco Muratori, Plant Manager of Nestlé Perugina.
With AWM, it is possible to standardize decision-making processes for planning on a single integrated software.
The intelligent integration with existing company systems has enabled a smoother flow of information, improving operational efficiency and allowing a real-time global view of human resources.
the history of Nestlé
Founded in 1907, Nestlé Perugina represents a symbolic brand in the chocolate industry and, over more than a century, has managed to withstand the passage of trends and the wear of time.
Nestlé’s history in Italy is a long tradition characterized by values such as quality, assurance, sustainability, and, last but not least, innovation, which has always been the heartbeat of the company’s activity.
For some years now, the multinational has been engaging in digitization projects for its plants with the aim of achieving an interconnected and cutting-edge factory according to the principles of Industry 4.0. For this reason, in its journey towards digitization, Nestlé Perugina has decided to invest in technological tools with the goal of optimizing work organization and life in the factory.
In line with this objective, in 2020 the multinational decided to invest in AWM Suite, to unite two worlds that have been separate until now: people management and production, centralizing information and making production activity as efficient as possible.
data at the core of planning processes: adopting an integrated system
The decision to implement the software within the San Sisto plant arose from the need to optimize cumbersome processes such as workforce management and personnel, which, due to their manual nature, represented a waste of time for the company.
“In the past, our production technicians had to remember information related to operators’ skills and various limitations,” explains Chiara Melchiorre, E&A Engineer at Nestlé Perugia.
Indeed, previously, planning within the plant was done manually and based on the experience of those organizing the work. Specifically, Team Leaders mentally combined information from various Excel files and, to manage personnel, moved employee name tags on a board.
Nestlé Perugina therefore needed a system capable of interacting with other factory systems, in order to retrieve the necessary information for optimal planning.
“With AWM, we standardized decision-making processes for planning on a single software and digitized various information, so as to have data such as personal records, time stamps, absences, and information regarding employees’ physical limitations available on a single platform,” concludes Dr. Melchiorre.
Thanks to its various functionalities, AWM allows for personnel planning not only daily but also weekly, explains Marco Giambenedetti, Operation Manager at Nestlé Perugina. This, Giambenedetti continues, allows Department Managers to have an overall view of personnel availability.
the advantages of a technology that optimizes the production plan, placing the right people in the right positions
“AWM allows us to understand how our workforce is composed in terms of skills and to plan their training. In short, to find solutions that would have been impossible before,” says Marco Muratori, explaining the benefits derived from using a workforce management platform.
Thanks to the platform, planning errors that previously caused inefficiency on the lines have been eliminated. Moreover, the time required for workforce management has been reduced, allowing the organization to become increasingly efficient and enabling various managers to focus on higher value-added activities.
Furthermore, sharing information within a single platform allows production technicians to make more accurate decisions, having precise data on the various lines available. Disseminating information allows more people to become autonomous: they are able to make choices without constantly referring to their superiors, thus feeling more responsible. Having distributed information also means this: streamlining processes and speeding up activities by creating motivation among people.
Innovation has brought significant benefits for employees, especially in terms of communication with the factory. Thanks to the Azzurra app, operators can communicate directly with their Managers, send feedback, and request holidays or leave. The application also adds value for managers, who can communicate individually or en masse, create customized surveys, manage medical visits, and implement a gamification system to keep employees engaged.
Having the right information allows for making the most accurate decisions and optimizing workforce management, increasing the productivity and efficiency of the entire organization. “Large companies understand that optimizing work organization is a great added value. What was missing was a centralized system. Companies like ours have the ability to pioneer this automation and make the tool increasingly effective and easy to use,” says Muratori.
